This is my first massage ~ What can I expect?
Upon arrival for your first visit, you will fill out a brief Confidential Client Intake form. This form asks for your contact information, the primary reason for your visit, details of your current and past health, any medications you are taking, and your current health habits. Liz will review the form with you, asking further questions as necessary, in order to clarify your needs and identify possible contraindications for massage. Based on the information you have provided, Liz will propose a treatment plan for that day’s session. Once you and she have agreed on how to proceed, she will leave the treatment room to wash her hands, allowing you a few minutes to undress and get onto the massage table in private.
The table is prepared with a top and bottom sheet and a blanket, and once on the table, you will cover up with the top sheet and blanket. If you need assistance in getting on or off the table, Liz will gladly remain in the room to help you, and will then wash up before beginning your massage. During your session you will be covered by a sheet at all times and only the area of the body being worked on will be undraped. The breast area and genitals are never exposed or touched. Clients are encouraged to dress down to their personal comfort level. Some clients prefer to undress completely, while others choose to leave undershorts (or additional clothing) on. Liz will tailor the work as needed in order to respect your boundaries and keep you feeling safe and comfortable. You can receive a very effective and relaxing massage while fully clothed.
After giving you a few minutes to get settled onto the table, Liz will knock on the door and wait for your reply before reentering the treatment room. She will then adjust the table’s face rest to your comfort, will place a bolster (pillow) under your knees or ankles, and will check that you are comfortable before beginning the work.
During your session, Liz will ask you for feedback on the techniques and the pressure she is using, to make sure the work is comfortable and effective for you. You are encouraged to let her know at any time if you need her to change the technique or pressure. Liz will otherwise remain quiet during your session, allowing you to relax; however, feel free to initiate conversation if you like!
Once the session work is complete, Liz will again leave the room to wash her hands, allowing you time to get dressed. Open the door slightly when you are ready for her to return. She will then spend a few minutes talking with you, to ask how you are feeling and to find out how the session worked for you. This is a good time to let her know of any aspects of the treatment you particularly liked or disliked so she can note this information in your records for next time. Based on what she learned during your session, Liz will make recommendations for your future care. Payment in full is due at this time.
